Slow as Molasses

I now know where that saying comes from...this month's Cake Slice Baker's selection from our new book, Vintage Cakes, was a Shoo-Fly Cake. Kind of like a gingerbread cake with a crumb topping. It's made with molasses, 3/4 of a cup... In the time it takes to get that much to pour out of a bottle, you could give yourself a pedicure, it is sloooooooooowwwwww...

It smelled good and it looked good, but I'm not much of a fan of the way molasses or gingerbread tastes, so I decided to bake it in a disposable pan and deliver it with dinner today to a sweet older lady in our church who has been under the weather. I hope she likes it!

Recipe here.

I hate the smell of molasses but I live the taste. I'm sure your friend will live the cake! :) and yes, molasses us very slow, which is why I didn't use and entire 3/4 cup. I got tired of pouring it from the bottle.

You have a beautiful shoo-fly cake there! Pity you did not fancy the main ingredients but 5Stars to you for still baking it and gifting it! Good job!

What a nice gesture. I am sure it was much appreciated. I am also not a big fan of molasses so I probably should have done the same thing.
