Rich chocolate cake, covered in a semi-sweet chocolate ganache, all wrapped up in vanilla buttercream....that's what the Black & White Cake that the Cake Slice Bakers baked this month is...and it is delicious! So glad that I didn't let the fact that I couldn't get it baked by our deadline of the 20th discourage me from baking it. It wasn't a difficult cake to make, a few steps involved, but nothing too hard. Since the buttercream didn't work for me on last month's cake, I decided to just go ahead and go with my tried and true buttercream recipe, which was a great compliment to the ganache.
The Rev gave this cake high praise, saying he wouldn't change a thing...I'm also pretty sure that he thinks I sinned by drinking water with my slice rather than milk (he won't eat chocolate without milk!). And now, settle a great marital debate for us...the Rev does not like when I give him a dessert fork, but that is what they are for...dessert...he says it is like sending a knight to do battle with a dagger. Am I the only one that uses dessert forks?
Recipe can be found in Julie Richardson's Vintage Cakes.

Never let being "late" stop you from joining us! We still love seeing your cakes! :) I am so excited you enjoyed baking this one! I can eat dessert with anything! Even my bare hands as long as it's good! LOL! :P Great job Stacie!
Hi Stacie, So glad you did bake this cake with us. Love that cake of yours! I have the same problem as you with the SB!
Milk with chocolate? must give this combo a try. Good one with the dessert fork and Rev. Send him my regards! and a hug for the wee one!
I love cake! Nom nom nom!
Mmm sounds divine!!
I often get people telling me I'm crazy when I don't have milk with chocolate cake or cookies or what have you - but I'm just not a big fan of milk.
As for dessert forks - yep, we use them! My mom always served dessert with the smaller fork, so I guess it's just the way we roll. ;)
Stacie, better late than never! So glad you joined us :) Your cake looks very good despite your buttercream problem. Gorgeous! To me, chocolate goes with many things :)
That looks so good!!
I don't think I own a dessert fork. Is it smaller?
looks amazing
LOL!
Makes me crazy when the hubby serves dinner with dessert forks or dessert with dinner forks! When I say something he just looks at me with that look of .... maleness confusion. Bahahaha!!
Your cake looks great and I would agree with using a dinner fork to eat it - bigger bites ha!
:)

I have been craving cake lately. What is it about breastfeeding that is making me more hungry than when I was pregnant? Lol, I love your hubby's analogy with the fork. I use salad forks with dessert, because I don't actually own dessert forks.
yummy Stacie. Just yummy. Hazel x
Stacie...so glad you were able to join in! Your cake turned out fabulously. And I agree with you..if you have a favorite buttercream that works for you..then go with it! But I don't agree with the Rev. Of course you must use a dessert fork with desserts! ;- }
Stacie, your cake looks soo pretty. I'm with you and I kinda of wish I would of made another buttercream recipe. I didn't care for the books buttercream at all. I feel like all I tasted was butter... Do you have a recipe you recommend? So happy to be baking with you ladies!! :)
ganache? What kind of a word is that?
I don't like small forks. I also agree that chocolate tastes better with milk-- although water works to make more room. yum
Your cake look so delicious, and like you I love dessert forks. I also like using my splades, which are like a cross between a fork and a spoon.
