This month, The Cake Slice Bakers chose The Pink Cake from Julie Richardson's Vintage Cakes as our baking project. It was a chocolate layer cake frosted with a buttercream tinted pink by raspberry puree...or it was supposed to be. I baked this to share with the staff at work in celebration of a birthday in our office, and it was devoured in no time flat. No one seemed to care that the buttercream made with egg whites that the recipe called for did not turn out for me and I had to go with my standard go-to buttercream recipe, and or some reason, the puree didn't really tint my icing all that well--it was just the palest of pinks. So it was The Pink Cake...that wasn't pink, but it was still delicious!

Your cake looks wonderful. I am so sorry the frosting didn't work out well for you. I was hesitate to try it myself since it's failed on me more times that I can count.
I am sorry the frosting didn't turn out for you! :( ... Glad everyone still enjoyed the cake! You did a great job! Love the chocolate addition on the frosting! :)
Such a pretty cake, Stacie! I bet it was gone in no time! I'm sorry the buttercream didn't work out for you but glad that you had your own back up plan! Great cake! : )
Oh wow...regardless of the color, that cake looks delicious! And so pretty!
Hi, I'm new to baking with the group this month. I had problems with the icing too. Your cake looks great!
It's a pity your frosting didn't turn out pink but I'm sure the taste was superb nevertheless. Bet you had great fun like me :)
You cake sure looks good to me... so nice to be able to share a home made treat at work.

oooh... yum! I especially love the chocolate chips you have scattered around the edge and the top! I don't even think the color matters when you have chocolate chips.
Oh - your decoration is lovely. How did you do the bits round the side? Did you just stick them on or did you roll it? Thanks.
Hey I am all about cakes tasting good rather than looking good. Obviously both is better, but I always sacrifice design a bit to use real frosting instead of fondant.
I think it looks great!
It's a shame that your cake did not turn out "pink" but I LOVE your decorations on your cake. Looks stunning! x
You know you are doing something right when your cake is devoured in a very short time, and I can see why since your cake looks delicious. Buttercream can be a little tricky but it looks like you had a great backup plan.
It sure does look yummy though! Even if it wasn't pink ;) *waves hello* from a new Cake Slicer, Hazel x
Love your cake!
