When I sent out my SOS for tips, Connie at The Young and the Relentless answered! If you don't follow Connie, you are missing out. She has awesome ideas to make your kids the envy of others and make all of the other room Moms pale in comparison, great book suggestions, a Smash book series that already has me inspired to start my own next year, and the best-you-won't-even-need-Chris-Harrison-recaps of The Bachelor. And do not get me started on how we are kindred, type A, list making spirits...
Tip #207 (Connie's Tip)
A place for everything and everything in its place...
"Every child should have their own set of hooks by the front door. One for their coat and one for their backpack. This way they are encouraged to be responsible for their things and have a designated place to put them. We also have a bench in the front door area for shoes. When they get home from school....coats, shoes and backpacks all go in their place."
"In the cubby holes (of the bench), I have seasonal shoes, baseball gloves and frisbees and a red plastic bin for extra hats and gloves. The black tray came from the Target dollar spot a couple winters ago and it's perfect for wet boots."
"I marked off sections for the kids to put their shoes. This ensures that they put them NICELY where they belong."
I should add that putting things in their place is not just for children, it helps husbands who have a tendency to lose their keys or their wallets, that is what I hear anyway...
Thanks, Connie! Be sure to visit her and follow along in her fun!

That was a really perfect description of Connie! I love her!
I love the redesigned blog, too! Did you do this yourself?
I have dreams of a really cute mud room with hooks, a bench, boots in a row ... but alas I live in a tiny mobile home and my mud room is my laundry room that will only hold my washer and dryer. One day though!! :)
Love your area! And yes we sort of have an area- now the trick is to get my kids to consistently use it!
Yes! Perfect description of Connie! And who doesn't love her funny personality? Her posts from Bachelor recaps are hysterical!
What a great idea! Now, I'll need to put one of these in my NEW house!
If something doesn't have a home in my house, it's in danger of getting thrown out. Match has learned this the hard way. ;-) I definitely plan on adding hooks above our bench shoe storage in the front room once Piglet is school aged. :-) Great tip!
YAY!
I'm so glad that you like my tip!
