Bead Soup Blog Party Reveal: Part 1
The rules of the swap say that you have to use the focal piece and the clasp, but you can use them in different pieces. Unfortunately, with vacation, pregnancy/baby stuff, and MeeMaw's passing, I am a little behind. I have finished the bracelet that I used the clasp in, but haven't quite finished the focal piece, hoping to have it done and ready to share late in the week. Until then, here is the bracelet, using the antique brass swivel clasp, some of the brass spacer beads, mahogany obsidian rounds, faceted tumbles of brown snowflake obsidian, and some beads and links that I had laying around.
Unfortunately, my swap partner Sue's mother has become gravely ill and she isn't able to complete her pieces, but you can check out all of the other talented participant's pieces by visiting here.

Baby Got Book...
Book #1 is Rosemary and Rue, a murder mystery with a Faerie twist and Book #2 is The Bone Garden, a medical thriller by Tess Gerritsen. Both will make great beach reads!
I don't have an Amazon Wish List (yet!), but I mentioned to Beth that I was really hoping to build a library of great books for the baby, since I love to read and really want to encourage that in her. Book #3, The Velveteen Rabbit, is one of my all time favorite children's books, which Beth did not know, and I'm so excited to have received it. I have 3 must-have books for the baby, Charlotte's Web, The Giving Tree, and this one. Of course, Beth's choice of this book was made all the sweeter by the fact that she sent her very own childhood copy of the book for the baby.
Big thanks to Beth and to Angie for hosting this great swap!
P.S. You are my sister from another mister if the post title inspired you to sing a little Sir Mix-A-Lot...

Books 'n' Bloggers Swap
The swap is being hosted by Beth from Living a Goddess Life and Angie from My So-Called Chaos. You'll send 3 books to your partner--a book you love, a book you haven't read, and a book your partner wants--and receive 3 in return.
But you need to hurry, sign up ends tomorow! Complete rules can be found here.
Anybody have any books that you have read that I might want to check out myself?

Seriously Impulsive Swap
I was so excited to get home this past Friday to find a HUGE box waiting for me! Clearly, this girl knows me--I love jewelry, scarves, and anything that helps with organization. She sent me 2 beautiful bracelets, a sheer animal print scarf that is going to be perfect for summer, and a hanging jewelry organizer. I lay my clothes and jewelry out the night before because I get ready in the mornings in our spare room, so I don't wake the Rev. My jewelry has just been in a dish back there, so I am super excited to put this organizer to use.
She could have stopped there and I would have been happy...but taking something that I told her in one of our last email conversations, she sent me this amazing glass sculpture, in a gorgeous shade of red. Doesn't it look great in our living room with some of my other red glass pieces?Want to see what I sent to Janette? Visit her here. Want some more swap talk, head over to see Impulsive and Shawn and all of the other swap participants on Talk to us Tuesday!

Bead Soup Blog Party Day
What is a Bead Soup Blog Party?
Each beader was paired up with another jewelry designer and tasked with sending the following:
~ A focal
~ A special clasp (not just a lobster claw)
~ Some coordinating spacers or beads
Using the focal and the clasp was mandatory, but we could use anything from our own stash to round out the rest, and choose to use the coordinating beads or not.
Here's what I made!
In the end, I decided to attach the focal bead to a larger wooden bead (actually a pair of clearanced earrings that I took apart!) and make an asymmetrical necklace, with black and silver as the other primary colors.
While I consider myself a creative person, I think what this swap taught me is that part of my joy in creating is the purpose of the item. I admit that I got a little bogged down in the fact that this piece had no purpose, no destination--as I mentioned I make jewelry mostly as gifts for others, and myself to wear. I had a hard time giving the piece an identity because I didn't know its purpose. I want to work a little more on just enjoying the process and not stressing over the purpose.
A big thanks to Lori at Pretty Things for pushing me outside my limits and for taking on the monumental task of organizing a swap with over 200 participants!

Earrings, Rings & Other Sparkly Things Swap
I recently participated in an Earrings, Rings, and Other Sparkly Things Swap. It was hosted by Ashley Getting Dressed, a cool fashion blog where Ashley catalogs all of the outfits that she puts together and tells you where you can find similar items--a very cool concept for a blog, if you ask me. I was paired with Dollie over at The Rockabilly Socialite. Dollie has a love for vintage things, so I sent her a vintage pair of pink and rhinestone earrings and a coordinating carved bangle bracelet. I had so much fun searching for just the right pieces to suit her fun personality!
In return, Dollie sent me a beautiful gun metal and red stone jewelry set--she said it would be perfect for spicing up my black and khaki and she is right! I love it! Thanks Dollie for being such a great swap partner and thanks Ashley for hosting!

Advent Swap 2009 - Days 21-25
This past week wrapped up my Advent Swap with Illene . I received a lavender sachet (smells so good), a refrigerator magnet with our family photo, a cute reindeer cork, and several handmade treasures, including a beautiful Christmas napkin holder. All leading up to my Christmas Day gift--this incredible handmade angel ornament. Knowing that Illene's daughter, Lorraine, is bravely battling cancer and is often not feeling well, and must certainly be in need of Illene's care, it means so much that she would go to so much trouble to stitch and bead this beauty. It will grace our tree and remind us of our friend down under for many years to come! Thanks for everything, Illene!

Advent Swap 2009 - Days 14-20
Also in this week's bounty were some cookies. Now the package touted that they were "the most irresistible chocolate biscuit" and they were! Yummy!

Advent Swap 2009 - Days 7-13
So, if you are counting, that is only 6 gifts, so what was the 7th gift of the week, you ask? It was these little pieces of yummy goodness. I received 4 of these little Cherry Ripe bars, yes you are only seeing 2 in the photo, because the other 2 were scarfed down pretty quickly! They are a mix of coconut, cherries and dark chocolate and they are some kind of good! Thanks again, Illene! More to come next week!

Advent Swap 2009 - Days 1-6
I love all of my gifts which included a cute pair of earrings, a cookbook, handmade pin cushion, and key chain. But my 2 favorites for the week were a personalized set of stationary featuring my blog header and a beautiful embroidered bookmark. When your Mom gives your name a spelling that no one ever gets right on the first try and that isn't all that common, you can never buy all that cutesy personalized stuff in the stores, because they don't have your name spelled correctly. So when you get something made just for you with your name, you get a little giddy!

Beading Daily Earring Swap
Just so you know, I sent these earrings to whomever received them--I haven't heard from them yet, so I have no clue who got them. I titled them "Something Old, Something New," since they were a combination of hand antiqued brass wire and Amazonite rondelles.
I received these beautiful copper and silver earrings titled "Cinnamon Sugar" from Susan at Buffaloe Gal Crafts in Chesapeake Beach, MD. Thanks, Susan!

Favorite Things Swap 2009
I sent my partner, Brandy this package of goodies which contained some cute note cards, Christmas ornaments in a Christmas gift bag, some bath stuff, Phase 10 cards, Sugar Free Cherry Limeade mix, Creme Savers, a photo album, bracelet, Ice Cubes gum, and a Target gift card.
And she sent me this package of cool stuff including some coupons, Christmas stickers, a star hook, a Twilight bookmark, Welcome Family & Friends sign, almonds in this cute little jar, note cards, a crocheted dish rag, cool Ikea tins, and some Big Rock candy from Big Rock Candy Mountain, which is located in her hometown. My 2 favorite items were these super cute recipe cards that you can download and print online and vanilla powder, which you can use just like vanilla extract.
I love getting to know people through onlione swaps and really love getting packages in the mail!8.13.2009
My 1st Swap Meet!
About 25 women, some bloggers, some not, met at her house last Saturday for the meet. We each brought 2-3 home decor items that we had lying around our house collecting dust. I won't give you all of the details of how it worked, because The Nester has it pretty well outlined in her latest post, but I'll tell you this--fun was indeed had by all! I got to meet Kimba and Jen, both of whom I follow in blogland. I also made new friends like, Kristi, Richella, and The Nester's sister, Emily.
And I have to share this and hope that The Nester doesn't mind--at one point fairly early on, we were all standing around chit chatting and she made a comment about how she doesn't do well around people and then later, as you can imagine with 25 people in a house, it got a little warm and she looked at me and asked if she had man-sweat running down her back, and I just had to laugh, she's as real as you and me and maybe she's got it all figured out--it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful.
